How to Overcome Feelings of Low Self-Worth
I find that many often feel low self esteem & too often we tell ourselves we aren’t worthy enough. One of my favorite quotes says: “We sabotage the great things in our lives because deep down we don’t feel worthy of having the great things.” Now how true is that? What’s true is we feel this way but it is untrue that we are not worthy of these great things. In fact, we are worthy of many great things in life.
The biggest critic is yourself. We criticize ourselves more than any worst enemy ever could. It’s important to our mental health that we start working on taking care of our minds and start boosting our confidence.
This definitely doesn’t come easy and I am still working on self worth and learning that I am worthy of great things. I am here to tell you my secrets and tips for feeling overall better about yourself. These secrets have helped me to start living a more positive lifestyle. This will help your mental health hugely and you will start feeling worthy before you know it.
Decide every morning that you are in a good mood. This is so important. If you wake up happy and you decide that “today is going to be a good day.” Chances are you are going to have an awesome day. If you wake up and you are telling yourself “ugh, another day, time to go to work and do things I hate.” and you start your day with a negative thought, it will create negative vibes. Chances are, your day will not be awesome.
Obsess over the things you love about yourself. Stop focusing on things that you “hate” about yourself and start obsessing over everything you love. Tell yourself you are gorgeous and you love your hair, every morning. Stop focusing on one or two pimples and tell yourself, wow my skin looks amazing. Stop looking for flaws. Face it, everyone has their own flaws but if you start feeling good about your flaws and yourself, this energy will reflect off of you and on to others creating positivity. So what you have a zit? You’re still gorgeous! Compliment yourself daily.
Keep a journal. I know it might sound “lame” or like a “waste of time”. In fact it’s the complete opposite. Journaling helps a lot of people when it comes to stress, anxiety, and negative thoughts. Start journaling but, journal in a positive way. Write only positive thoughts. Write what you are thankful for, what you love about yourself, your goals, what you love in general, positive affirmations. This is great for helping with low self-worth.
Stop pushing people away because you feel unworthy. This is a huge problem for many. They tend to feel low self-worth so they constantly push away others who care for them because they are afraid to get too close. If this sounds like you, this is me saying, STOP. You deserve to have people who care about you in your life. If you continuously push those who care for you away, you will end up alone and feeling even worse. It’s important to surround and fill your life with people who lift you up and make you feel loved. You are worthy of people like this in your life. Don’t think otherwise!
Eat healthy, exercise, love others. This is important. When you take care of yourself, you start to love yourself more. If you are feeling at your best, your positivity increases as well as your mood which leads to you loving yourself more. You will soon feel your self-worth increase. Feed your body nourishing foods & exercise at least 20 mins a day. Of course, love others, treat others with respect & it will go a long way.
When you discover your self worth you will lose interest in all those who don’t see it. Getting rid of those who are negative & don’t see your self worth is important. You don’t need this kind of negativity in your life. It will only bring you down. Know what your worth & everyone who doesn’t know needs to be kicked to the curb.
Start believing in yourself. It’s time to say I can & go for it. Step outside of your comfort zone and trust in yourself. Who cares what others think of you while you make the decision to go for it. They can say what they want & hate on you but ignore it. It’s time to do things you’ve always wanted to do, and take chances on things you are most afraid to go after. In the end you don’t want to regret not taking the chance on things you wanted to try.
Be with someone who is proud to show you off. If you are in a relationship with someone who is embarrassed to show you off, or doesn’t make you feel beautiful every single day, it might be time to let go. It is so important to be with someone who makes you feel beautiful & is proud to show you off. That’s what you deserve. You are worthy of being shown off to the world. If your significant other doesn’t see that, then they don’t deserve you.
Stop living in the past & start living in the now. This is important advice. Too many of us focus on everything that we did “wrong” in our past and let that stop us from living in the present. The past can’t be fixed and everyone has their wrongs. It’s important to have wrongs in the past because we would have never learned lessons to better our present. So stop focusing on all the wrong you might have done & gone through in the past. It’s behind. If you start focusing on what you have now and what you can do to better yourself now, you will be a lot happier.
Try to have a day or two during the week where you unplug from social media. It’s a fact that social media plays a big role in lowered self worth & esteem. If you take a break from social media more often, you will begin to notice an increase in self esteem & self worth. Try to read a book or magazine instead. Set Sunday to be the day of the week where you decide you will not go on social media for any reason what so ever.
